Krishnapuram Palace

Krishnapuram Palace is a historic palace and museum located near Kayamkulam in Alappuzha district, Kerala. It was built in the 18th century by King Marthanda Varma of Travancore, after annexing the Kayamkulam (Odanad) region. Today, it is maintained by the Kerala State Department of Archaeology.Built in the traditional Kerala style with gabled roofs, narrow corridors and dormer windows.Designed in the Pathinarukettu style (16 blocks with 4 courtyards).Constructed with laterite, teak and rosewood.Spacious verandas and sloping tiled roofs protect the palace from Kerala’s monsoon rains.

Ambalappuzha Sri Krishna Temple

The Ambalappuzha Sri Krishna Temple is a historic Hindu temple located about 14 km south of Alappuzha town. Dedicated to Lord Krishna, worshipped here in the form of Unnikannan (child Krishna holding butter in his hand), it is often called the “Dwarka of the South”.The temple was built in the 15th century (around 790 M.E. / 1585 AD) by the local ruler Chembakasserry Pooradam Thirunal-Devanarayanan Thampuran.The idol is believed to have been brought here from Guruvayur Temple during the time of Tipu Sultan’s invasion, for safekeeping.

Kuttanad

Kuttanad, often called the “Rice Bowl of Kerala”, is a unique and scenic region in Alappuzha district, famous for its vast paddy fields, winding canals, and backwaters.
