hawa Beach
Hawa Beach, also called Eve’s Beach, is one of the three main beaches in Kovalam, Kerala. It is located right next to the famous Lighthouse Beach and is known for its calm atmosphere, soft golden sand, and natural beauty. Unlike the busy Lighthouse Beach, Hawa Beach is quieter, making it a great spot for relaxation, swimming, and watching sunsets.
In earlier days, the beach got its name because it was a popular hangout place for foreign female tourists, and locals used to call it “Eve’s Beach.” Today, it attracts both domestic and international travelers who prefer a peaceful environment.One of the highlights of Hawa Beach is the view of local fishermen setting out in traditional wooden boats, which adds a cultural touch to the seaside experience. Visitors can enjoy walking along the palm-fringed shore, trying local seafood at nearby eateries, or simply unwinding under the sun.
Vizhinjam rock
The Vizhinjam Rock-Cut Cave Temple is an ancient shrine located near Vizhinjam, about 17 km from Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala. It is believed to date from the 8th century, built during the era of the Ay rulers. It’s a protected monument under the Archaeological Survey of India.
The temple is carved directly into a granite rock, forming a small one-celled shrine. Inside, there is a loose sculpture of Dakshinamurthi (a form of Lord Shiva as teacher). The outer walls are adorned with partially finished sculptures: on one side, Tripurantaka (Shiva in a specific cosmic form) wielding a bow and arrow; on the other side, representations of Shiva and his consort Parvati. Though some carvings are incomplete, they show a high level of craftsmanship for their time.
Vizhinjam Light House
Vizhinjam Lighthouse (also called Vizhinjam Light) is a landmark tower located on Kurumkal Hill, overlooking the Arabian Sea near Kovalam, Kerala. It was constructed and began operation in 1972.
The structure is tall (around 36 meters) and cylindrical, painted with distinctive red and white horizontal bands so it’s easily visible against the coastline. From the top, you get panoramic views of the sea, nearby beaches (especially Lighthouse Beach), the green coconut palms, rocky outcrops and often boats or ships on the horizon.
There is a spiral staircase of many steps to the observation deck, which gives a rewarding view if you climb up.The lighthouse is located right by the shore, so you can combine the visit with a trip to Lighthouse Beach: swim, walk, relax, or just enjoy the coastal scenery.
Kovalam Beach

Vellayani Lake
Vellayani Lake, also known as Vellayani Kayal, is the largest freshwater lake in Thiruvananthapuram district, Kerala. Situated approximately 7 km from Kovalam and 9 km from the city center, it serves as a vital source of drinking water and irrigation for the region.he lake spans over 7.5 square kilometers and is renowned for its serene environment, making it a popular spot for boating, birdwatching, and photography.The surrounding area of Vellayani Lake is rich in biodiversity, supporting various species of flora and fauna. The lake’s ecosystem is complemented by the nearby Vellayani-Punchakkari wetlands, which are a haven for migratory birds, including the glossy ibis and painted stork. Halcyon Castle
Halcyon Castle, also known as Kovalam Palace, is a historic landmark situated in Kovalam, Kerala. Built in 1932, it originally served as a summer retreat for the royal family of Travancore. The castle stands majestically amidst lush greenery and overlooks the Arabian Sea, combining colonial-era architecture with traditional Kerala design elements. Its serene surroundings make it a peaceful retreat away from the bustling beaches of Kovalam.
Architecturally, Halcyon Castle features a blend of European and Kerala styles, with high ceilings, arched windows, and spacious verandas. The interiors are decorated with vintage furniture, wooden panels, and intricate carvings that reflect the elegance of the royal era. The castle has been maintained over the years, preserving its historic charm while also accommodating modern amenities for visitors and guests.
